“Red State” or “Religion Scares The Shit Out Me”- my fuckin review

I just watched “Red State” by Kevin Smith and here is the movie review. The film starts off with a group of religious people (all members of something called Five Points Church) boycotting a gay kids funeral somewhere in middle America. Think Westboro Baptist Church. Then we meet 3 normal male teens in HighSchool, they are using a site on the computer that helps you find people to have sex with locally. They find a lady on there who is not too far away to bang, and all 3 decide to head out there one night. When they arrive at her crib/trailer she drugs them and is really apart of  the Five Points Church. The 3 boys awaken on their compound/church and they are tied up. There they see a gay man tied to a cross while the preacher Abin Cooper is giving a sermon on how America is fucked up and how homosexuals and sinners are taking over. Then the real horror begins, trapped with crazy religious people who think they are bettering the world by getting rid of sinners. Ok I dug this movie a lot even though the end is a little fast and forced. I like how they showed all sides to the story, like the innocent dudes, the crazy religious people, the not so crazy religious people who are just caught up in because they are young, and the Government. I feel like religion is one of the most destructive forces on the planet and this shit is true horror. So if you want to see a horror story involving religious fanatics that has probably happened somewhere in America then watch this movie. I dug it, and if you watch it you may learn something along the way too bitch! I would watch this movie again tomorrow. This film is out on DVD and On Demand.

The Trailer:

The Facts:

A. I think the point of the film is to show America how one group can seem like they are only hating on a certain type of people, but in reality they are hating on a lot of types/groups of people and they will eventually hate you for something too. So you should not ignore these crazy people when they are holding up signs that says “God Hates Fags”. They not only hate homosexuals, but a lot of other people as well. They may see you as a sinner one day too, if they don’t already.

B. Kevin Smith has entertained me with his films on a lot of levels over the years. Is he the best director ever? No, but he keeps shit fun and or real, and I feel like he has made his mark with his films, and keeps trying to give you something different and new.

C. I love how they showed younger members in the religious group who were scared and wanted out.

D. When protesters showed up to his premiere of the film he also protested the protesters. Cute.

E. I feel like true horror is based on reality.

F. Here are the 3 teen boys who go looking for sex and end up in a nightmare. (Michael AngaranoNicholas BraunKyle Gallner)

G. I don’t fuck with crazy people.

H. Don’t meet people you don’t know for sex online, or you will be murdered. This really is a fucked up horror movie.

J. My only problem with the film is felt short, and the ending was too fast and forced.

K. Humans and religion scare me, they will do anything for their god/gods, and can not be reasoned with.

L. There was no score in the film, only religious songs performed by Michael Parks who was the preacher of the church and main bad guy. Here is a link to his songs. He also was an amazing villain. You may remember him as the Sheriff in the movies “Planet Terror“, “Death Proof “, “Kill Bill: Vol. 1 “.

M. John Goodman is in this movie and he is good as always.

N. The posters are pretty fucking amazing to this movie, here are 3.

  1. I want to see this but I don’t want to pay money to see it. Kevin Smith came to town and charged $60 bucks for this and his bullshit parade. When Crispen Glover and Alex Cox came to town with there fine ass films it was a $15 dollar affair.
